We are honoured to have been asked to clean the Portsmouth War memorial in preparation for Remembrance Day this November. The Portsmouth Remembrance Sunday Service will be held on Sunday 11th November 2018.

The War Memorial is located in Guildhall Square, in Portsmouth at the entrance to Victoria Park.

The War Memorial takes the form of a raised central cenotaph surmounted by a stone casket in front of a semi-circular wall bearing the names of the fallen on bronze panels.

The Cenotaph remembers both those who died in World War One and In World War Two.

The WW1 Inscription reads:

THIS MEMORIAL WAS ERECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF PORTSMOUTH IN PROUD AND LOVING MEMORY OF THOSE WHO IN THE GLORIOUS MORNING OF THEIR DAYS FOR ENGLANDS SAKE LOST ALL BUT ENGLANDS PRAISE MAY LIGHT PERPETUAL SHINE UPON THEM

The WW2 Inscription reads:

IN MEMORY OF THE SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN AND THE CITIZENS OF PORTSMOUTH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN DEFENCE OF THEIR COUNTRY DURING WORLD WAR II
